Carousel 6.2.0 Release Notes ========================================================= * Bug 4177 | Font size can be changed on the digital clock -Another feature brought to us by our favorite Carousel trainer! She helps make Carousel more useful in the field! * Bug 5126 | Omit the colon in the 24-hour clock -We dropped the : in 24 hour time... A silly oversight on out part. * Bug 5362 | Added a proxy server check to Display Engine connection test -We added a checkpoint for proxy servers in the Display Engine 'check' connection test. We have a lot of customers who don't even know they proxy servers in-between their players and server. Sometime the proxies gum up the works! * Bug 5398 | Time zone can be configured for each clock bulletin -This one is for the time zone spanning enterprises! Clock bulletins can now be individually configured for what time zone they display. * Bug 5423 | Linux player software -A small title for a big feature. We have built a Display Engine (which we are now calling the player software) that runs on Linux. Right now it implements the features of the new micro-player license. This is perfect for low cost players and room signs. * Bug 5535 | Weather bulletins allow interational zip codes -We support international zip codes and celsius temps! * Bug 5619 | New Performance Mode in the DisplayEngine -We added a new graphics mode in the DisplayEngine, Performance Mode. This mode is designed for video/flash intense applications. It does not use the DirectX technology for standard bulletins, giving more graphics resources to the other multimedia processes. It also have a new 'swoop up' crawl, which most of the TRMS staff prefers. * Bug 5774 | Setting the screensaver to 'disabled' in a zone has no affect -This is an oversight from long ago. The screensaver now shows channels, not just zones. Disabling a zone would leave a hole in the channel layout. We simply removed the option to disable screensaver output for a zone in this release. * Bug 5939 | AverMedia input card support, component and HDMI options -We added support for a new capture card from AverMedia. This provides SD composite, HD component and HDMI inputs for Carousel's live video input feature. * Bug 5999 | New option to use VLC for video playback -Carousel will use VLC as it's multimedia playback engine if VLC is installed on the player and "PreferVLC" setting key is set to "True" in the DisplayEngine's .config file. This feature is for power users who would like to experiment with other playback technologies. * Bug 6002 | Carousel player installer now installs a default.html file for the /web directory is it exists -This feature makes it easier for customers to determine if the machine they are navigating to in their web browser is Carousel Player or Server. * Bug 6007 | Extended the RDA command set to include more bulletin management activities -Check out the manual and xml schema docs for new commands added to RDA. We added a bunch of management commands with the goal of being able to completely control bulletin creation and management via the RDA interface. * Bug 6010 | Update to the latest flash distribution -We now distribute the latest Adobe Flash runtime * Bug 6014 | Changed the underlying web page snapshot processing to be more robust -We refactored the web page snapshot code to not run in the same process as the web server. This will make is use an external application to snag the web page. Hopefully it will solve some of the memory leak and deadlocks that we were having with different browsers, website, and plugins. * Bug 6023 | RSS uses old content when it gets a 404 error from a server -Carousel caches RSS data in order to speed thing up. However, if we received a 404 (page does not exist) error, we would use the cached data. We decided to change the behavior of Carousel and not render the bulletin instead. This helps customer who are trying to integrate alert systems with Carousel via RSS feeds. * Bug 6045 | The list of channels is now sorted alphabetically -The list of channels is now sorted alphabetically. * Bug 6046 | The list of checked in players is now sorted alphabetically -The Player Status and MicroPlayer Status pages are now sorted alphabetically by host name.
